Compassion

Could you care for an older adult as your own family? The Apostle John did. At the cross, Jesus not only dealt with the sins of all of His people and defeated Satan, but He arranged for the care of His mother with John.

In John 19:25-27, Jesus is literally hanging on the cross when He asks John to care for Mary as if she was his own mom. The first-century world gave women few rights and older women needed their children and grandchildren to provide for them and care for them in their old age.

So how do you think the church in general (you know, all of the Christians in all of the denominations around the world) is doing at caring for our “widows”? I suspect that while a few people are rock stars at this, most of us could improve.

As you think about how you could serve Jesus, would you consider a ministry to senior citizens?

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world,” (Ja 1:27).

A Prayer

Lord, thank You for caring for me when I have been in need. Please reveal to me how I can love and care for the elderly. Give me a smile, a hand to lend, and money to spare in caring for those that you love. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
