What happened at the cross?

Scary!!! The beating and mocking of Jesus was bloody. The flogging of Jesus was bloody. The crucifixion was bloody.
The night before this scene, Jesus fell on his face and cried out to heaven: “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will,” (Mt 26:39). Jesus knew the torture He would go through, but He did it anyway. WHY???

Because He LOVES *you.*.

The God of all time agreed to take on flesh and blood, knowing that He would suffer, knowing that He would die a painful and bloody death. WHY???
Because it was the only way to pay for all of your (and my) ethical errors - mean mistakes - our sins.

Why???

I don’t know. Sure there are theological answers regarding the need for a blood sacrifice, but then why *that*? I don’t know (I know the theology, but here I think we should embrace the mystery.) What I DO I know is that the Bible tells us that this was the way and I trust that someday in heaven I will fully understand.
As we begin to turn our hearts towards contemplation of the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, let us remember that it came with a cost, one He was willing to pay, FOR YOU.
