Conditions of the Heart

I have always been fascinated by the works of the Dutch-Flemish Painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The lifestyle of the people he portrayed and the expressions on their faces, as well as his apocalyptic style, inspired me to do this piece, The Conditions of the Heart. I looked up every Scripture reference to the Heart, I then categorized them under three headings, Heart Under Satan's Rule, Heart Under Own Rule, and Heart Under God's Rule. Using a base of a physical heart I then created within that space, faces or bodies that expressed the condition of their heart. The bottom third represents Satan's rule with the dark background and colors. The middle third with the Cross represents the saved but under their own rule. There is brokenheartedness and growth taking place and the background is a lighter shade of blue. The top third is under the Spirit's rule where I have the royal purple background and lighter and happier faces. the growing and expanding heart is producing fruit and joy. This is a unique piece and one of a kind.
