More Precious than Gold

Years ago, few of us could afford the $15,000 mind-blowing flat screen TV known as Plasmas. Before that, even fewer households had room for large boxy rear project TVs. Funny how something that was highly valued in the not-so-distant past is archaic today. As technology and science advance we continue to witness this phenomenon.

There are things that hold their value across the ages such as gold. Yet one day the Bible tells us that the streets of heaven will be paved in it. Regardless of if you believe this is a metaphor or literal, the meaning is the same. The physical things we now hold dear one day be insignificant.

I’m not saying that we should never have nice things. If you can afford it, then there is nothing wrong with it. As long as you know that “thing” you must have today will eventually end up in a dump one day. Even things that go up in value, such as a valuable painting, are only “valuable” if certain people say they are. But even precious collectibles are not immune to getting broken or burned.

Is there anything we can count on? Anything that will last and hold its value forever?  Yes!

The Love of God and His Word. Following Jesus is the most significant thing you can do today…right now! Sharing His Word with others and doing our best to be more and more like Jesus daily. These are the things that legacies are made of, the things that will last beyond the grave.

…Above gold, yes, above pure gold. Therefore, I carefully follow all Your precepts concerning everything… – Psalm 119.127-8
