Is your life ambiguous these days?

Elise Aleman
Ambiguous (James 1.7-8)
Oil on wood panel

I love watching the continuous action of the waves. Somedays the sea is calm other days turbulent, but always moving. Passively watching from the beach, you might see a toy boat get violently tossed and eventually overcome by the surf. However, a large rock will stay firmly in place and as waves wash over it. The sea in this analogy are problems and conflicts. The question is, are you like the toy boat or the rock? Will you be overcome and overturned by doubts, fears, and confusion, or will you stand on the One whom the sea listens to and obeys?

We are living in an era of information overload, decisions regarding politics, vaccines, pandemics, wars, masks…etc.  can be overwhelming. Details vary but there’s nothing new here, conflicts entered the world from the day Eve bit the fruit. James (Jesus’ half-brother) has a different perspective, he tells us not to be surprised by trials, but rather count them as joy, “knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.”

If you feel confused about simple decisions and discerning what is right and what is false, you are not alone. I don’t mean that we are all in this together, I mean the Holy Spirit is with us. Spiritual wisdom is a practical application to daily circumstances. Learn to overcome instability by asking God for wisdom—in faith without doubting. Trust and go to Him with all your problems not just the ones you think you can handle.

***Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your infinite wisdom and love. I pray in Jesus’ name for your wisdom in my insignificant issues as well as the life-changing ones. I trust that only You know what I need today, and I ask that You increase my faith, help me let go and submit to your will amid my trials.
